We would like to invite RCE members from the African, Americas, Asia Pacific, and European communities to submit self-nominations to host the upcoming RCE Regional Conference for 2017.
African RCEs met for the sixth time at Kenyatta University Nairobi, Kenya on 24-26 August, 2016. The theme of the conference was ‘Developing Capacities of African RCEs for the Implementation of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD and the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs)’.
Japan launched TICAD in 1993 in order to refocus international attention on the importance and urgency of African development issues. The Summit’s objectives are to promote high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners, and to mobilize support for African-owned development initiatives. The Summit is co-organized by the Government of Japan, the United Nations Office of the Special Advisor on Africa (UN-OSAA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the World Bank.
On June 23-24, 2016 about 50 participants from 17 European RCEs met at London South Bank University (LSBU) in London to hold the annual European RCE Meeting. On the first day of the conference, overshadowed by UK’s decision to leave the European Union, European RCEs affirmed their solidarity and commitment to future collaboration to promote social and environmental justice.
Members of the UNU-IAS ESD team, the RCE network and RCE candidates from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond took part in a three-event marathon lasting six days in Cha-am, Thailand, including the International Conference on “Climate Change, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for the Sustainable Development Goals: Policy and Practice” (27-29 June, 2016), the 9th Asia-Pacific RCE Meeting (30 June) and finally the
