New UNU-IAS Publication on Knowledge Institutions and Communities from the RCE Network

The Education for Sustainable Development Project at UNU-IAS has worked with Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs) worldwide to develop a new publication titled ‘Academia and Communities: Engaging for Change’.

A collective effort from various RCEs across the worldwide network, the publication looks at the contribution of knowledge to sustainable development, with a focus on the interaction between science and society. These are presented in the form of RCE-led initiatives throughout 17 chapters which demonstrate the engagement between knowledge institutions and communities.

These contributions look at the ways in which local development problems can be approached through a variety of ESD forms and practices initiated by the multi-stakeholder networks of the RCEs, and which contribute to the ambitions of the GAP (Global Action Programme on ESD).

The publication is the fourth book in a series covering learning contributions and sustainability initiatives of RCEs – the others focused on Sustainable Consumption and Production, Traditional Knowledge and Biodiversity, and Health, Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition, published in 2012, 2013 and 2018 respectively.
