RCE Greater Atlanta celebrated its official launch and acknowledgement by the United Nations University at an event hosted on 10th October, 2018 by the Center for Civil and Human Rights, an RCE member organisation. The event also kicked off the Center’s 70th anniversary celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and included presentations by Porsche and the Office of the Consulate General of Switzerland.

RCE Greater Atlanta was founded by three higher education institutions: Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Spelman College. The acknowledgment by the United Nations University makes RCE Greater Atlanta one of only six in the U.S., and the only one with strong leadership and participation from a historically black college or university. Over 200 tickets were purchased for the event, and members of the RCE Greater Atlanta Youth Network (university students) worked at displays representing the SDGs at the event.
