9. Educational activities : 
The activities conducted e.g. garden and food waste composting in schools assist teachers to conduct innovative education for sustainable development. Education on management of climate change impacts build capacity of the related agencies and organizations to better serve the affected communities.
10. Competences and capabilities : 
Logical Framework Analysis (LFA), mind mapping and other action research oriented techniques (e.g. recycling and composting) to determine SD problems and to propose activities to solve the problems. The techniques are used during discussions and workshops to ensure opinions of stakeholders included in decision making.

1. Aim: What was the aim of your evaluation? : 
The evaluation was conducted as part of RCE annual reporting and also to document and assess RCE Penang activities in relation to its objectives.

July 2011
3. Participants & role: Who participated in evaluation and what was their role? : 
The evaluation was conducted by the management team of the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. CGSS coordinates and audit activities related to sustainability in Universiti Sains Malaysia.
4. Method for getting information: How did you obtain information necessary for evaluation? : 
Annual report, project proposals and personal communications with researchers/ partners involve with RCE Penang.
5. Findings: What are the main findings of your self-evaluation? : 
The findings indicate that RCE Penang activities varied from sectoral topics to cross sectoral issues related to sustainability and address the needs of the partners and stakeholders.
