The 14th African Regional Meeting will be held in a hybrid format from 28 to 30 August 2024 in Eldoret, Kenya. The meeting will be hosted by RCE North Rift and the University of Eldoret in collaboration with the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA) and the Eldoret National Polytechnic under the theme ‘the Role of RCE in Climate Action, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.

The regional meeting aims to mobilise various stakeholders, including local communities, academic institutions and governments to engage actively in ecosystem restoration, waste management, sustainable livelihoods, and the adoption of renewable energy and green financing to address climate change through ESD. The regional meeting will also empower youth and women in mainstreaming ESD and SDGs in the African region. Furthermore, the meeting will ignite a discussion to address climate vulnerability, promote sustainable development practices in the African region and highlight the importance of collaborative efforts of all African RCEs.

RCE North Rift is situated within the Great Rift Valley, encompassing six counties: Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Nandi and Baringo. These counties collaborate under the North Rift Economic Bloc (NREB) in the northern part of the Rift Valley in Kenya. RCE North Rift has successfully collaborated with various local stakeholders through knowledge exchange and capacity building and implemented innovative solutions to advance climate change adaptation and mitigation through ESD.

The meeting will take place at the Eldoret National Polytechnic and the University of Eldoret in Eldoret, Kenya, an area renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich ecological diversity. An optional field visit will provide participants with opportunities to explore the region's cultural and social heritage and to engage with local communities.
