RCE Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Private Schools Coordination Committee (JKPSCC), organised the 2nd Annual State Level Conference on 21 January, 2018 in Jammu, India, focusing on the theme, the “Role of Private Schools in Education for Sustainable Development”.

Dr. Hari Dutt, co-director of RCE Jammu, delivered the welcome address, speaking about the valuable opportunity the seminar presented, providing a platform to bring all stakeholders together (promoters of private schools, academics, educators, regulators and those involved in government functions) to interact and determine the role of the state’s private schools in education for sustainable development (ESD). The conference also allowed for the state’s education leaders from all levels (elementary, middle, and high schools) to come together to share expertise on ESD, and to gain new insights into applicable strategies in the field.

Dr. Dutt appealed for further collaboration with the government to ensure ESD continues to be addressed on a regional level. Choudhary Lal Singh, the State Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, announced a plantation drive in collaboration with private schools under the aegis of RCE Jammu.

More than 500 delegates from different parts of the state participated in the day-long event, unanimously resolving to continue to promote synergies on ESD, to deal with threats on a local level, to ensure reorientation of the existing system, and to bridge any gaps on ESD.
