It looks like we don't have any issue for youth here, and i am not happy that this conference would not be discussing anything on youth.
I invite my colleagues who may be in various discussion groups, to think of areas where our youth need to be assisted and helped. I am sure they have challenges and we need to help out on this.
I don't know, but i think a youth is someone between ages 15 to 30 years there, though our laws of Kenya define youth as someone who has attained age of 16 years, but as not attained age of 18 years. It depends on what we are looking at here. Broadly, a youth would be someone who is young enough to have vigor and strength to face life's issues. A youth is mostly seen as someone who is new in society and need to be assisted to make a living.

In this perspective, i would like us to look at them as our leaders of now and tomorrow.
Iam sure we have issues to talk about, like unemployment, marriages, youth and community development,
youth leadership forums, youth and community security,
youth empowerment programs and many other areas that we need to involve our youth to become better leaders for tomorrow.

As we prepare to discuss this, iam not a happy man after a friend informed me that in ten years from now the institution of marriage will be a thing of the past for the youth of now. I ask him why he thought so, and he said with all the freedom the youth now have for sex and co-hating in colleges, this practice may be carried on to their later stages in life, and most of them will not have marriage as priority even when they settle down.

In my youth days every weekend, there were five or six weddings, and i remember being involved in a youth wedding committee just when i was 20 years.
Ask one youth if he is involved in any wedding committee in any church or any community and he would bluntly ask you why he should be.

So in this regard we should be talking about creating avenues and processes to involve our youth for more hand in community developments, community policing, Community
education, community economic empowerment groups. We can talk about this i think and foster youth involvement in many of urban and community projects.
