Description:
2. GREEN MOUNT CAMEROON PROJECT (Nov 2016-Nov 2017): This was the flagship project for RCE BUEA, the longest project that lasted for over 9months(from November 2016 to November 2017).It was a project that had as main objective “to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Mount Cameroon Forest Region by reducing the pressure mounted on our forest by community demand for fuel wood (fire wood used in cooking and household heating)”
To attain this goal a series of tasks were undertaken
 A sensitization face aimed at contacting local communities and the selected schools, raising awareness about the project, its importance both to community members and to biodiversity conservation
 Training of some village volunteers on nursery management and agroforestry techniques.

 Some School Environmental Clubs were created and revitalised

 Tree nurseries were been set up in the various schools and villages

 Trees were later then planted (tree planting exercises) in the various communities and farms.
At the end of the project, these were the benefits of the project to the communities and schools
• Students and community members will benefitted from the skills that was taught to them in tree nursery management and trees propagation techniques.
• Also, both the schools and communities can in future run nursery of economic tree species and it will be an income generating activity.
• The communities around Mount Cameroon Forest Region also benefitted from the project as it has increased the availability of wood for cooking in the long run.
• The sensitization and educational arm of the project have contributed to improving the behavior of the people towards forest resources and there will be an improvement in its general management.
• Contribute to fighting climate change by reducing lose of forest cover through tree planting. By planting the trees themselves, community member will learn to appreciate the effort it takes to develop a forest and they will learn to use forest resources wisely.
