The lead agency RCE Chandigarh, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology collaborated with its partners to motivate for environment protection as under:

1) Workshop for Development of Training e-Module on “Environment” for Punjab School Teachers

2) Environment Camp at Baba Z.S.F.S. Khalsa College, Morinda

3) Interactive Session on ESD

4) World Environment Day 2015 Celebration at Ropar Wetland

5) World Ozone day celebration

6)World Wetland Day 2015 Celebration at Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala

Description: 
1) Workshop for Development of Training e-Module on “Environment” for Punjab School Teachers:RCE Partners Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and State Council for Educational Research and training organized Workshop for Development of Training Module on “Environment” for Punjab School Teachers.

2)Environment Camp at Baba Z.S.F.S. Khalsa College, Morinda: An Environment Camp on ”Popularization of ENVIS Centre and State Environment Issues “ was organized at Baba Zorawar Singh, Fateh Singh Khalsa Girls College at Morinda (an RCE Chandigarh partner) on 26th March, 2015. SPO (ENVIS) and Project Associate (Wetlands) delivered presentation on state environment issues and wetlands of Punjab. 60 students and 10 Teachers from the various streams participated actively in the sessions. The Centre also arranged an exhibition with display boards and resource material to highlight the information /data available with ENVIS & its website (www.punenvis.nic.in). An Environment information wall prepared by Khalsa College under the guidance of ENVIS Centre was also inaugurated.

3)Interactive Session on ESD :An ”Interactive Session on Education for Sustainable Development “ was organized on 31st March, 2015 by lead agency PSCST at Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector - 26, Chandigarh (RCE Chandigarh partner). 50 Students and Teachers, participated in the session. SPO (ENVIS) discussed the RCE network and its activities. Reflections of YUVA Meet & RCE Meeting at TERI University, Delhi’ were also discussed by the YUVA Meet student participants. Project Associate (ENVIS) showcase ENVIS website and features on it. An exhibition displaying various facets of the state’s environment and resource material were also displayed.

4) World Environment Day 2015 Celebration at Ropar Wetland:World environment day was celebrated at Loghut in Ropar on 05.06.2015 by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Department of Forests & Wildlife, Ropar. The Theme for this year was “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with care”. Around 40-50 students and 10 teachers from different schools participated in this program.The students were taken to the interpretation center to see the exhibits related to wetland and wildlife. They were given information about the importance of environmental protection and what role they can play in it. A small quiz competition on environment was also organized amongst the students and the winners were given study material related to wetland and environment. Plantation of saplings near the forest area was also done by the students and teachers. The students also visited the forest area for a nature walk where they were given information about various plants, insects, birds etc by the resource persons.

5)World Ozone day celebration :ENVIS participated in celebration of ‘International day for Ozone Preservation’ with RCE partners, Govt High School, Phase 11, Mohali and Sant Isher Singh School, Mohali. A paper reading contest was held at Govt High School, Phase 11, Mohali. Further, a poster making and co-large making competitions were held at the Sant Isher Singh School, Mohali. The students were given ENVIS Newsletters as prizes.
World Ozone day was celebrated at Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on 16.09.2015 by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The Theme for this year was “30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together.” The theme was supported by the slogan “Ozone: All there is between you and UV.”
Around 40-50 students and 5 teachers from the department participated in this program. The resource persons for this workshop were Dr. S.K. Saxena, (PSO) PSCST and Ms. Nitima Bhatia, Project Associate, PSCST. Dr. Saroj Arora, Professor, Botanical and Environmental Sciences, GNDU gave a lecture on importance of ozone layer. Later Ms. Nitima Bhatia gave a brief presentation on latest trends in ozone layer recovery and conducted a small quiz competition related to the topic for the students. The winners were given ENVIS newsletters. Wetland planners were also distributed amongst the students to give them information about various environment related days.


6)World Wetland Day 2015 Celebration at Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala:World wetland day was celebrated at Pushpa Gujral Science city, Kapurthala on 02.02.2015 by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Pushpa Gujral Science city, Kapurthala. The Theme for this year was Wetlands for Our Future – Join us! . Around 250 students from different schools participated in this program. A painting competition was organized for the students in the Science City. The resource persons for this workshop were Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director Pushpa Gujral Science City, Dr. S.K. Saxena, (PSO) PSCST, Dr. Saroj Arora, GNDU and Ms. Geetanjali WWF. The winners of the painting competition were felicitated during the program. A visit to Kanjli wetland was also arranged for watching migratory birds.Dordarshan Jalandhar covered the whole program and interview of resource persons and students was also recorded by them. Experts briefed the students about three Ramsar Sites (Wetlands of International Importance)of Punjab i.e. Harike, Kanjli & Ropar. The importance of two National (Nangal & Ranjit Sagar) and six State wetlands (Keshopur Miani, Dholbaha, Hussainiwala, Kahnuwan, Mand Bharthala & Jastarwal) was also discussed. Students were informed that these wetlands are rich in biodiversity and are winter homes for numerous migratory birds which come here from distant places-Afghanistan, Russia, China, etc. As Wetlands are associated with many environmental benefits such as water purification, ground water recharging, flood mitigation, biodiversity conservation, etc., the students, were asked to actively participate in creating awareness and mobilizing local community for protection of wetlands. The program of wetland day celebration 2015 was telecast on 22nd Feb, 2015 on DD Punjabi.
5)World Ozone day celebration at GNDU, Amritsar: World Ozone day was celebrated at Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on 16.09.2015 by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The Theme for this year was “30 Years of Healing the Ozone Together.” The theme was supported by the slogan “Ozone: All there is between you and UV.”Around 40-50 students and 5 teachers from the department participated in this program. Brief presentations and a small quiz competition was conducted related to the topic for the students. The winners were given ENVIS newsletters. Wetland planners were also distributed amongst the students to give them information about various environment related days.

7)Celebration of ‘Nature Conservation Day’: Environment Information System Centre held an “Interactive session on conservation of Natural Resources” with of RCE partner, Sant Isher Singh Public School (Eco-club students), Mohali on Nature Conservation Day (dated 28th July , 2015). She laid emphasis on a healthy environment and to make a conscious efforts to contribute to the local efforts in conserving nature and the benefits they provide for the present and future generations i.e Sustainable development. After the session, the participants visited the herbal garden within school premises and discussed the importance of herbal plants in daily life. Further, a “Puppetry Show” was also organized for junior school to associate them with nature conservation.
