Farming especially vegetable and fish farming. The temperatures are very high thus high spoilage rates of produce after harvest.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses:
We are providing solar powered cold storage and logistic services to prolong the shelf life of the produce. This reduces post-harvest food loss which results to lose of income for the farmers and traders.

Objectives:
To ensure food farmers and traders have an increase in their incomes. This ensures they can afford a decent livelihood. We are also contributing to climate smart agriculture.

Provision of cold storage as a service for the food farmers and traders.

10,000 Farmers and fresh food traders
Results:
Fresh food traders and farmers had their post-harvest losses managed. Our solar cold storage prolongs the shelf life of the harvest. They were able to sell at better prices. They had an increase of 40% of their revenues.
Lessons learned:
The adoption of clean energy solutions especially in the Agricultural sector ensures lower operating costs. The all through available solar in Kenya should be well tapped to increase the earning capacity of farmers and food traders. With post harvest food loss managed, the revenues of these farmers and traders increase significantly therefore able to afford decent lifestyle.
