Celebrating traditional knowledge in the Himalayas during UN International Day for Biological Diversity

Located in the Northeastern part of India, the state of Uttarkhad shares its boundaries with China in the North and Nepal in the East. The source of both the Ganga and the Yamuna rivers are in this state.

Revised programme for the Asia Pacific IPBES Orientation workshop 1-2nd July.

The 9th Asia-Pacific RCE Meeting will be hosted by RCE Cha-am in Thailand on 30 June 2016 back to back with the International Conference on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Policy and Practice (ICCCB (link is external)) held 27-29 June 2016. The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Capacity Building Workshop on Policy Support Tools will also be held in addition to these events from 1-2 July 2016, and RCE members are strongly encouraged to participate.

No Where to Run - RCE Minna celebrates World Environment Day

Over the past five years, RCE Minna has continued to inspire and educate people through the commemoration of the UNEP World Environment Day (WED).

Additionally, it has been a good way to promote RCE Minna's activities and projects. This year’s WED on the 5th June ¨Go Wild for Life¨ focussed on the fight against illegal wildlife trade. “Go Wild for Life” encouraged everyone to spread the message of the damage done by wildlife crime and how to prevent further damage.

UNU-IAS expands its cooperation with ASEAN in Education for Sustainable Development

The consultative workshop to review the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Environmental Education Action Plan (AEEAP 2014-2018) was held in conjunction with the 8th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE) in Singapore 11-12 April 2016.

RCE Srinagar, CEE Himalaya and JSW Foundation promote natural resource conservation on the International Day of Forests and World Water Day 2016

The Himalayan state of Uttarakhand in the Central Himalayas of the Indian Himalayan Region, is largely dominated by biodiversity rich forest ecosystem thus making it one of the most unique yet fragile ecosystems. The majority of the traditional hill communities are dependent on natural resources for food, fruits, fuel wood, and fodder along with a variety of ecological services. Traditional belief was that the natural resources are essential for the livelihood and ecological security of mountain regions.

ACEID 2016 focusses on education and social justice

The International Academic Forum hosted its annual Asian Conference on Education and International Development (ACEID 2016) in Kobe, Japan on 3-6 April. The theme for this year’s event was “Education for Social Justice” and scholars from over 40 countries used the opportunity to discuss the latest trends and topics in education in both national and international development.

RCE Bogota Coordinator Olga María Bermúdez Guerrero receives lifetime Award for environmental contributions in Colombia

On February 26, 2016 the District Secretary of Environment honored Olga María Bermúdez Guerrero, Coordinator of RCE Bogota, for her lifetime achievement and contribution to environmental thinking in Colombia. The Award "Augusto Ángel Maya" is named after Augusto Angel Maya, founder of the Institute of Environmental Studies at the National University of Colombia, who left a valuable environmental legacy, recognized both nationally and internationally.
