Trust for Sustainable Living International Schools Essay Competition & Debate

My Vision for Sustainability Education

We are pleased to announce that the 2015 International Schools Essay Competition & Debate will focus on the future of education for sustainable development.

As the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development draws to a close, the Trust for Sustainable Living is inviting schoolchildren around the world (aged 7-17) to voice their views on the future of education for sustainability. Trophies will be awarded for the top five prizes in each category (Primary and Secondary) and one overall Grand Prize winner will receive a free trip for three people to attend the International Schools Debate at the world-renowned Oxford Union. Learn more here ...

Schools around the world are also invited to take the Schools Sustainability Challenge and submit a short video featuring their best sustainability projects. The winning school will be awarded a special Challenge Trophy and £500 (or equivalent) towards future projects.

Online registration is open and Teacher Champions have until 23rd January 2015 to submit their school essay and video entries. Schools/teachers – register here. Supporting resources for teachers.

Schools will be notified of shortlisted entries in March 2015 and invited to attend the International Schools Debate at the Oxford Union, Oxford, UK on 7-10 July 2015.

The previous year’s competition (What does ‘sustainable living’ mean to you?) received entries from 73 countries and schools from 20 countries attended the International Schools Debate in the UK. The 2014 Grand Prize was awarded to Chinyere Ogbo (Emmaus & Ignatius Home School, Nigeria – above right) while 1st Prize in the Primary category went to Ismael Costa (St. George’s School, Uruguay – above left).

Please help us spread the word to schools!

Kind regards,

Karl Hansen (Director)
