Dear Colleagues,
Reference: Call for Papers: World Symposium on Sustainability at Universities (WSSD-U-2014), Manchester, UK 3-5 September 2014
I am pleased to announce the World Symposium on Sustainability at Universities (WSSD-U-2014), which will be held in Manchester, UK on 3-5 September 2014. This will follow-up a highly successful event held in Rio de Janeiro last year, parallel to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20): http://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-als/veranstaltungen/veranstaltungsarchi...
With this Call for Papers, we are seeking contributions from suitably qualified academics, research groups and students working in the field of sustainable development as a whole, and concerned with research on sustainability, on curriculum greening and campus activities, in particular. This Call is also meant to engage colleagues undertaking practical initiatives and projects aimed at promoting sustainable development at universities, or where universities transfer information and know-how to developing countries. WSSD-U-2014 will also offer a good platform for those undertaking local, national and international projects, where it can be showcased how higher education institutions are putting the principles of sustainable development into practice.
As part of the event, we are inviting coordinators of Masters and PhD Programmes to showcase their schemes at a special exhibition titled "Training and Capacity Building on Sustainable Development" where you will be able to display your own post-graduate schemes on sustainable development issues (e.g. MSc, MPhil, MBA, PhD, DSc, DBA etc) on the one hand, but also exchange ideas and experiences with other on-going programmes, on the other. With the new ERASMUS Mundos coming up, this will be a sound investment in getting new insights, new ideas and even more international cooperation, making your programme even stronger than it already is.
Or you can of course also register as a normal delegate, present your work and access a comprehensive body of international information, and further your networks with like-minded colleagues.
WSSD-U-2014 will be no doubt a nice, international and high impact event in 2014, happening just a few weeks before the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD) comes to a close. An output of WSSD-U-2014 will be the peer reviewed book "Transformative approaches to sustainable development at universities: working across disciplines" will be published, with all accepted papers. This will be a further volume of the award-winning book series "Environmental Education, Communication and Sustainability" (Peter Lang Scientific Publishers), which since its creation in 1998 has become the world´s prime book series on education and communication on sustainable development. Interested people and organisations should submit a 200 abstract as soon as possible, but no later than 30th January 2014. Further details on WSSD-U-2014, including on how to submit an abstract and how to register can be seen at: http://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-als/veranstaltungen/world-symposium-on-... Rgds, Walter Leal
