Socioeconomic and environmental characteristics of the area : 
In Omuta City, the declining birthrate and aging population are worsening, and the population is declining. However, in addition to the Miyanohara Pit, which is a site of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution, it is a town rich in nature surrounded by rivers, the sea, and mountains on the other side.
Description of sustainable development challenge(s) in the area the project addresses: 
Omuta City has the advantage that all elementary and junior high schools are certified as UNESCO Associated Schools, but there is a problem that young people are leaving the city. There are opportunities to learn about SDGs and ESD, but the loss of opportunities to demonstrate them is a major issue.

Rationale: 
Due to the earthquake resistance construction of the Miyanohara Pit, a temporary fence was installed and the whole picture could not be seen. So, I wondered if I could do something about the temporary enclosure.
Objectives: 
Through this art project, we wanted to deepen our ties with the local community, make people feel that everyone can participate in community development, and also to get their opinions on our future activities.
Activities and/or practices employed: 
We asked local residents, elementary, junior high and high school students, and tourists to write message cards. We asked them to write about the future image of Omuta City and their own dreams, and we pasted them on 10 sheets.
Size of academic audience: 
We are 5 to 9 youths. About 500 people wrote the leaves. About 300 to 400 people attended the festival.
Results: 
I was asked to attach a message card and handprint art so that 10 sheets of 1.8 x 3.6 m could be filled tightly.
In addition, we had you praise that it was great with tourists and had you put in public information of Omuta city.
Lessons learned: 
I learned that the idea of us youth alone is shallow, that the local people have made great efforts to revitalize the town, and that the ties between the communities are very strong.

Make everyone smile with art.
Relationship to other RCE activities: 
Since last year's RCE Youth Conference, we have been holding a ZOOM meeting once a month to report on the current situation and chat.
