9th African RCE Meeting 2019

The 9th African RCE Meeting will be held in Kwaluseni, Eswatini from 5th to 7th August, 2019. The meeting will be hosted by RCE Eswatini with the support of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).

Under the theme, 'Accelerating Progress towards the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Africa', the meeting will provide a regional platform to discuss, debate and launch activities that reinforce the fundamental role that education plays in achieving a sustainable future in the region. The meeting also aims to take stock of regional initiatives, including the role of ESD in implementing sustainable development on the ground in the African region.

Registration
Registration is free for all participants, however accommodation, some meals and travel arrangements are to be covered individually. 

To register, complete the Registration form and submit it to RCE Eswatini (rceeswatini@sea.org.sz) and the Global RCE Service Centre (rceconference@unu.edu).

Accommodation
We recommend you consider one of the listed hotels below which are near the venue. Rooms at the hotels are limited and may only be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact the hotel directly for reservation and inquiry. Transportation to/from the University of Eswatini will be arranged by RCE Eswatini throughout the meeting ONLY FOR the registered participants who stay in the hotels listed below. Please inform RCE Eswatini (rceeswatini@sea.org.sz) of which hotel you plan to stay at by Wednesday 31 July, 2019 (SAST). If you have your own transportation and wish to seek another accommodation option, please contact RCE Eswatini so that they can provide you with a list of other available hotels.

Case Study Presentations 
Participants are eligible to apply to present under the theme of Accelerating progress towards the achievement of sustainable development goals in Africa’ during the meeting.

For those applying, the deadline for case study submissions is 23:59, Sunday 5 May, 2019 (JST)

Poster Exhibition
Are you interested in contributing to the poster exhibition? If yes, please follow the guidelines below.

<Poster Creation Guidelines>

Each presenter will be provided with a poster board that is 90 cm in width and 210 cm in height, which fits a poster of A0-size (W x H = 84 cm x 119 cm) paper.

  • Please submit an abstract of your poster presentation to RCE Eswatini (rceeswatini@sea.org.sz) by Friday 7 June, 2019.
  • The presentation must cover the material as cited in the corresponding submitted abstract.
  • Place the title of your poster and the author’s names prominently at the top of the poster board to allow viewers to identify your presentation.
  • Highlight the presenting author’s name, e-mail, and address information in case the viewer is interested in contacting you for more information.
  • Prepare all diagrams or charts neatly and legibly in a size sufficient to be read at a distance of 2 metres. Paragraph and figure caption text should be AT LEAST 24-point font and headers AT LEAST 36-point font.
  • Organise the poster so it is clear, orderly, and self-explanatory.
  • Include the background of your research followed by results and conclusions. A successful poster presentation depends on how well you convey information to an interested audience.
  • Please print and bring your poster by your own.
  • Please DO NOT LAMINATE your poster unless you plan to re-use it. Un-laminated posters can be recycled.

Financial Support
RCE members are encouraged to explore and obtain funding from sources other than UNU-IAS, where possible, to help those without access to funding sources participate in this meeting. Financial support will be given to members of acknowledged RCEs ONLY. Please submit Form A: Financial Request form to the Global RCE Service Centre (rceconference@unu.edu) by 23:59, Sunday 5 May, 2019 (JST)You must also submit an RCE Project to the RCE Portal. Please read the selection criteria and the terms and conditions carefully before applying for financial support, and please make sure to sign the Applicant Declaration section (see section 3 in Form A) and to obtain your RCE coordinator’s recommendation (see section 4 in Form A) . Incomplete or delayed applications will not be considered for selection. **The deadline for applications for fund support has closed.**

Instructions on How to Submit an RCE Project
Instructions to submit an RCE Project on the RCE Portal can be found on the Create RCE Project page on the RCE Portal. Please make sure you have your login details ready (username and logins can be found here). A video tutorial is available to guide you through the process.

Visa Support Request
Participants that require a visa to enter Eswatini, and are in need of support documents, please submit Section 2 in the Registration form along with a copy of your passport to RCE Eswatini (rceeswatini@sea.org.sz) and the Global RCE Service Centre (rceconference@unu.edu) by 23:59, Sunday 5 May, 2019 (JST). Please make sure to apply for the visa well in advance. Note that visa application support will be given to members of acknowledged RCEs ONLY.
