5. Project description
Provide a short description of the project including strategies, regional challenges, aims and specific project activities.:

This project involves working with the students association called Enactus (entrepreneurship action in us) to design and develop a filtration mechanism that allows purification of contaminated water of led contaminated water from illegal mining in Bageka Community of Zamfara State. The led poisoning has been celebrated internationally as a catastrophe affecting the population of the community, their farm lands and cattle. The students drawn from various departments of Ahmadu Bello University, responded with the design of the Acophonics filter using simple, effective and sustainable techniques that purifies ground and surface contaminated water for use by the community. The scheme also provided an effective and healthy means of farming for the community using the Acophonics technology that allows production of fresh food crops in circles of three months each intended to create alternative sources for the community. The project uses solar powered electricity supported MTN. With the adoption of the technique is intended to totally reclaim the Bagega community within 48 months. The project in July won a National Award for sustainable development and will be presented at the Enactus World Championship in November 2017. The reception for this award was held on the 19th July 2017 at the main campus of the University.
