Description of RCE and Geographic Region:

RCE Ogun is situated in Ogun State. Ogun State is one of the 36 States in Nigeria, presently located within the South-West geopolitical zone. The neighbouring States include Lagos State (to the South), Oyo and Osun States (to the North), Ondo State (to the East) and the Republic of Benin (to the West). Ogun State has a population of 3,728,098 inhabitants. It has a rich deposit of mineral resources such as limestone, granite, glass sand and kaolin. Presently, Ogun has the highest concentration of manufacturing companies including two of Africa’s largest cement factories: Lafarge Cement and Dangote Cement. Ogun State also has the highest number of universities in Nigeria. The indigenes of Ogun are predominately farmers and textile manufacturers (Tie and Dye/Adire).

Goals and Objectives:

The goal of RCE Ogun is to create resilient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly communities through formal and informal trainings, enlightenment programmes and exemplar projects for the sustainable development of the region.

RCE Ogun is dedicated and committed to a paradigm shift in improving society via community service(s) and Education for Sustainable Development.

  • RCE Ogun Climate Change Convention and Biodiversity Conservation Workshop

Upcoming Activities:
  • EMA Smart Project: The identified poor performance of secondary/high school students in the English language and Mathematics has prompted the intervention of RCE Ogun first in the State then to be replicated in other parts of the country. The project focuses of demystifying the notion that Mathematics is difficult by rendering community service via physical teaching and radio programmes on Hebron 95.9 FM Covenant University which we expect to scale up and replicate.
  • Participation and Presentation of Paper at the 10th Regional Conference, Minna on 1 and 15 September, 2020

  • Climate Change Club and essay competitions for high school students
  • Climate Change Convention - brings persons from all fields to discuss climate change and how it can be mitigated
  • Digital Skills training for the Youth v. Financial Literacy Workshop for Sustainable Businesses

Other recent initiatives include, among others:

  1. Intervention in the provision of foot-controlled sanitizer, face masks and food palliative during the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown
  2. The English-Mathematics Clinic (popularly called EMA SMART initiative) that focuses on a teaching intervention programme to interface with Terminal Classes in the Senior Secondary Category and help with the Teaching of Core Subjects (Mathematics and English Language) in preparation for the final SSCE Examinations
