Rationale:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when colleges and schools were in lock down and students could not attend school physically, UCSI College organized the UCSI College Bizchallenge (Online Edition). This national level competition was organized with the aim to encourage the Form Five students in national schools throughout Malaysia to submit a 3-minute Tik Tok video on sustainable business ideas based on SDG 16 with a special focus on Peace with People and Peace with the Planet.
Objectives:
The objective of UCSI BizChallenge 2022 is to gauge the interest of future generations (school students) in the field of business, accountancy, management, marketing and entrepreneurship with sustainability as a central focus. This event aims to serve as a platform for the school students to visualize their future in the field of sustainable business. UCSI College wishes to enlighten the future generations about the importance of sustainable business ideas through this event and to address why it is important for businesses to create peace within the society and environment in which it operates.
Activities and/or practices employed:
The top 30 winners (teams) from the state level competed at the national level by submitting their sustainable business idea videos with a duration of not more than 3 minutes. All 30 videos submitted were shared on the UCSI College’s official Facebook page and evaluated by judges from within UCSI and our external partners to determine the top 3 winners.
Size of academic audience:
700 students at the State level challenge, then 90 students at the National level challenge. They competed in teams of 3 members each...
Results:
T70 SMK Paya Kemunting was announced the winner, followed by T119 SMA MAIWP as the 1st runner up and T121 SMA MAIWP as the 2nd runner up. All winners received cash prizes and all participants received a packet of seeds to grow in their own gardens, and those who manage to grow these will in turn be eligible for further prizes.
Lessons learned:
At the end of this event, the participants learned that business is not all about profit making, instead it is also about being socially responsible to the society in which it operates. This event also made the future generations aware that they have a huge responsibility in building a sustainable business ecosystem in the future.
